The First 20 Minutes


The First 20 Minutes by NYT fitness writer, Gretchen Reynolds is inspirational. The title refers to the benefits one receives from a mere 20 minutes of any type of exercise. You gain more health rewards the longer you exercise, but not as much as those first few minutes. Walking improves your memory and blood sugar absorption after a meal (or sugary snack). Sitting down all day is one of the worst things you could ever do. Gretchen suggests desk jockies should stand up and walk around for 2 minutes every 20 minutes. Something as simple as standing up while talking on the phone can make a difference.

The basic message of the book is MOVE!
