Garbology by Edward Humes

We make way to much trash. Mr. Humes takes us (the USA especially) to task for the accelerating accumulation of garbage we produce. Our marketing is geared to replacement instead of repair. Our products come packaged in instant trash. Our landfills are unsafe, polluting our water supply.

The solution seems to be changing our lifestyles. Smaller homes, less consumption of cheap, disposable stuff. As Betty Brock, children’s librarian at Nyack for many years used to say, “Fix it up, wear it out, make it do or do without.”
