Good movies revisited

I had the opportunity over the last week, thanks to Hurricane Sandy, to view again two movie epics.

“Legends of the Fall” is a beautifully photographed film about three sons and their relationship with their father and each other.  In case you have forgotten, this movie stars Brad Pitt, Anthony Hopkins, Aidan Quinn, and Henry Thomas of “ET” fame.  Set in the the early part of the twentieth century, it follows the lives of this family before, during, and after World War I.  Brad Pitt ,with his flowing blond locks, is the bad boy of the family.  He is the prodigal son who returns more than once. Good re-viewing.

“The English Patient” which runs more than three hours is another film that gets better with each viewing.  Set during World War II,  it centers around a love affair between Kristen Scott Thomas and Ralph Fiennes.  The supporting cast, the setting, North Africa, and the lush musical score really make this worthy of another viewing.   Of course, the chemistry between the two leads, as well as the secondary love story involving a Candian nurse, make this a two hankie movie.
