Tom Hanks

by

Recently, I saw two of Tom Hanks’ newest films:  “Captain Phillips” and “Saving Mr. Banks. ”  I like each of them for different reasons.  “Captain Phillips” had me on the edge on my seat.  Even though I remembered this hijacking case, I still was totally immersed in the film’s action and the its eventual outcome.  “Saving Mr. Banks” was a totally different kind of film, but equally enjoyable.  Even though the focus of the film was on Emma Thompson’s role as P.L.Travers, Hanks, portraying Walt Disney, caught the frustration, as well as, the confusion of the man as he tries to make the film “Mary Poppins.”

Hanks has had a varied film career.  From his early zany comedies to his Oscar performances in “Philadelphia” and “Forrest Gump,” he seldom disappoints.  If we are looking for another movie display maybe we could feature films focusing on a particular actor or actress.  Starting with Hanks might be a good idea.
