Article from American Libraries Direct

Here is a bit of trivia from the Golden state: According to an interview with a librarian at the Berkeley Public Library in Berkeley, CA, the most checked out book in the library system is the Holy Bible. However, upon closer inspection of the library’s records, it was found that the most checked out item during the last year was a string trimmer, which is used to trim weeds and edge grass. The majority of the most circulated items in the library system are tools, DVDs, iPads and magazines.

As for the top circulated print materials for last year, they are as follows:

1. Naruto by Kishimoto Masashi was checked out 933 times

2. Pokemon Diamond and Pearl Adventure by Shigekatsu Ihara was checked out 565 times

3. The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt was checked out 562 times

4. All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr was checked out 550 times

5. Yu-Gi-Oh! Duelist by Kazuki Takahashi was checked out 486 times

So out of the top 5 print materials, 3 are graphic novels. Interesting.

Maybe we should start circulating tools…
