In the mood for something uplifting, I picked up this quick read by popular Wall Street Journal sports columnist Jason Gay, who also has written for such publications as GQ, Rolling Stone, and Vogue. In this, his first book, Gay tackles a variety of serious and not-so-serious topics, including health, wedding music, travel, and flag football in chapters with titles like “Your Phone is Not You”, “Nobody’s Cool, Especially Me”, and “Dressing Like a Dad”. Gay’s insight into major events and everyday challenges may not be life-changing. However, his humorous take on life does offer a few laugh out loud moments, pieces of good advice (Aunt Genie says if you bring flowers to somebody’s home, make sure they are in a vase), and valuable reminders of the importance of family and friends and not taking oneself too seriously.
