This Raging Light

Seventeen year-old Lucille has a tough road to travel: her mother is away on an indefinite vacation and doesn’t answer her phone, her dad is an addict and she doesn’t even know where he is, she has a younger sister to take care of, and all Lucille’s mother left her was a note and a $100 dollar bill. Plus she is falling in love with her best friend’s twin brother, who is in a commited relationship with future plans to marry. Amazingly she juggles all these issues and a part time job as well to pay the bills. The reader can’t help but root for Lucille, while feeling total disgust for both her parents at the same time. A debut novel by Estelle Laure, This Raging Light is solid choice in the realistic fiction genre, and was one in the group of books chosen to read for the RCLS Mock Printz award last month. I look forward to forthcoming titles by this new author.
