Westchester resident and children’s author, Rhoda Blumberg, died on June 6th, 2016. Born in Brooklyn, NY and living on a farm in Westchester (Yorktown Heights) most of her life, Blumberg won a 1986 Newbery Honor Award for “Commodore Perry in the Land of the Shogun” which describes Matthew Perry’s visit to Japan in the 1850’s. Blumberg wrote mostly non-fiction titles that were thoroughly researched and well-received. Thank you for your contribution to children’s literature, Mrs. Blumberg.
