New Librarian of Congress

Dr. Carla Hayden has been approved as the new Librarian of Congress. She is the first woman and African-American to hold the post and….  the first librarian to hold the position.  She takes over the position from an interim Librarian, David Mao, who filled in after James Billington retired after 28 years on the job. The Library of Congress is the largest library in the world. President Obama nominated Hayden in February. Most of the dissenters who did not vote for Hayden were republicans.  Hayden was the head of the Baltimore library system and former president of the ALA American Library Association. Hayden will be the 14th Librarian of Congress to hold the position.
