If you are looking for a good beach read, “Belong to Me” by Marisa de los Santos might fill the bill. Well written and filled with very well-drawn characters, this is a book that you will have trouble putting down.
The three main characters are very different women. Cornelia Brown and her physician-husband Teo have recently moved to a suburb of Philadelphia. She is thinking of returning to school to pursue an advanced degree but hasn’t really started the process. Within days of moving in, she meets her new neighbor Piper Truitt. Piper is perfect from every hair on her head to her clothing to her home to her children. Lake Tremain, the third character, is a single mom with a 13 year old son who is a borderline genius. After a terrible seventh grade school year, Lake abruptly decides to move from California to Pennsylvania.
How these women’s lives intersect creates drama filled with trust, betrayal, love and loss. When a secret that is at the heart of the story is revealed, everyone’s life is turned around forever.
Good writing makes this story a very enjoyable read. Marisa de los Santos fills her novel with vivid characterizations and surprising insights.
