Have I mentioned that I love novels written in verse? Yes, I definitely have.
Ask Me How I Got Here by Christine Heppermann is a short, sardonic, and realistic story about Addie, who, when she gets pregnant at 16 must make a difficult choice. Addie doesn’t have to bear the brunt of her decision alone. Her parents are supportive. Her boyfriend sticks around. It’s really not the end of the world. Though it is hard on Addie, and it’s hard on her in some pretty unexpected ways. The novel is remains humorous though as Addie slowly breaks down more and more and pushes away everything that she had going for her (her friends, her boyfriend, her status as a star track athlete).
I would recommend this book for grades 9+.
