Newbery award-winning author, Paula Fox, died March 1, 2017 at age 93. She won the Newbery in 1974 for “Slave Dancer.” Her obituary in the New York Times (see here) says she was born in New York City “to parents who did not want her.” She also wrote novels for adults including “Desperate Characters” (1970) which was made into movie starring Shirley Maclaine. “One-Eyed Cat” and “A Village by the Sea” are a few of her other books for children. “Borrowed Finery” is her memoir for adults written in her 70’s while recovering from a violent attack.
