A while ago I reviewed A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness which I had LOVED. For a reminder the book is about a boy whose mother is sick with Cancer and is constantly bullied at school who one night is visited by a Monster who comes alive from the Yew tree outside of his window who helps him to recognize his fear, find his strength, and ultimately face his mother’s death.
ANYWAY, the book was beautiful and heartbreaking and one of my favorite books that I have ever read. They made a movie out of the book which came out last year, I think, and I just finally watched it last night. Usually I despise when they turn a book that I love into a movie (not that it ever stops me from watching it) because it can never compare to the book, A.K.A. the “real thing”! However, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that this movie was every bit as good as the book and more! And Liam Neeson is in it! They stayed very true to the story, left nothing out, and it made me feel every single thing that the book had. SO, read the book (it’s short) and watch the movie.
