Amazon has launched two new weekly charts listing the 20 Most Sold and Most Read books: “The Most Sold charts rank books according to the number of copies sold” through Amazon, Audible, and digital subscriptions. “Amazon’s Most Read charts rank titles by the average number of daily Kindle readers and Audible listeners each week.” Both adult and children’s titles are included. Independent bookstores may fear this as another lasso that will pull readers away from their stores. Amazon, of course, is hoping to rope in more customers and purchases as it mirrors its “If you liked…., we recommend….” lists.
