This teen novel by Anne Sibley O’Brien is set in North Korea in approximately 2011, in the early reign of the current supreme leader, Kim Jong-un. Mia and Simon Andrews accompany their father on one of his business trips, but become embroiled in the abuses suffered by those imprisoned in work camps. Mia finds a camera with several horrifying pictures of abused workers in a gift given to her by a local citizen. When her father is arrested, she and her brother flee the authorities and attempt to escape the country while carrying the camera. A very gripping story with facts about North Korea included, it is an eye- opener for many of us who are unfamiliar with the hardships endured by its people..
