When my children and I couldn’t stand being inside for one more second today, we pulled on our rain pants and headed outdoors to our new mud kitchen. The kitchen consists of a milk crate, a bucket, and various containers we found in the recycling.
Social isolation has led to a LOT of sibling bonding/rivalry time, and the mud kitchen is one place where a two-year-old and a six-year-old can play collaboratively, even harmoniously. Should the mud soup have stones? One scoop of leaves or two? Definitely more mud! We found a worm, made up names for different varieties of mud, and got so, so dirty. Thank goodness for mud.
If you’re in the mood for a more literary taste of spring, you might try Almost Time by Gary D. Schmidt, When Spring Comes by Kevin Henkes, or And Then It’s Spring by Julie Pogliano.
