Life-Changing Children’s Books

Ann Patchett wrote a lovely essay about the pleasures of reading children’s books that was published in yesterday’s New York Times. Patchett describes how reading every book Kate DiCamillo has ever written was both a satisfying and calming experience—a particularly good combination these days.

In my home, the Ramona Quimby books are offering satisfaction as family read-alouds. Ramona isn’t exactly the embodiment of calm, but she’s excellent entertainment. Does your family have any favorite books you like to read aloud together?
