Middle grade readers looking for book recommendations can find some great choices on the Book Club for Kids podcast. In each 20-minute episode, Kitty Felde hosts middle grade readers from around the country as they discuss a favorite novel. Actors, professional athletes, and other celebrities are invited to read excerpts from book selections. These are wonderful, well-produced episodes—the podcast was named one of the top 10 podcasts for children by The Times of London. Listeners can also become contributors by recording their take on their own favorite books. Definitely worth checking out if your middle grade student is in need of some fresh reading material!
Book Trust from England is the UK’s largest reading charity supporting literacy. They have so many great resources for children including reading picture books to kids, drawing videos and activities. They started Book Trust Home Time to support children during the pandemic by offering even more read along books and fun, educational digital resources. This week author Cressida Cowell is reading her book “How to be a Pirate.” You must visit their web site if you are looking for free quality online sources. Young and older children can find something fun here. Click the ‘Hairy Maclary’ book above to listen and read one of my favorite picture books from New Zealand author, Lynley Dodd. You’ll instantly be looking for the rest of the series!
