Summer Keaton is the main character of Kate White’s The Fiancee. Married just a few years, Summer and her husband spend a week each year at the estate of her in-laws with his brother and their wives for a family reunion. Along with her 9 year-old stepson, Summer usually enjoys the vacation and gets along well with everyone. This year however, one of his brother’s brings a new girlfriend in tow and the atmosphere turns tense and suspicious. Hannah ruffles everyone’s feathers and matters don’t improve when they announce they are engaged to be married. Suddenly, Summer’s beloved mother-in-law suddenly dies and the circumstances are suspicious. Summer’s questioning and amateur investigating ruffles everyone’s feathers and cause further tension in her marriage. Though not terrific, The Fiancee is an enjoyable summer read and good for a beach vacation.
