Labelled as one of the ‘most gripping psychological novels of the year,’ Magpie begins with Marisa and her boyfriend, Jake, living in London. All seems well until Jake announces his job isn’t going well and they need to take on a tenant. Kate moves in and seemingly appropriates their lives. Then the book switches to Kate’s point of view and we learn that Marisa may not be the woman we originally believed. Who is telling the truth? Is Kate really Jake’s girlfriend? What happened to Marisa’s mother and sister who disappeared when she was 7? Is Marisa mentally unhinged or Kate? An entertaining read.
